Are Redux watches water resistant and waterproof?

Water resistant is a confusing issue to most watch consumers and is easily confused with being waterproof.

No watch manufacturer technician can guarantee that a watch is totally waterproof. However, some watch are capable of being submerged into deeper depths of water.

According to guidelines issued by the Federal Trade Commission, no watch can be labelled as waterproof.

What does being water resistant means?

Water resistant is the extent the watch can get wet. It means that the watch can withstand the pressure exerted by a specific amount of water. The degree of water resistant is indicated in the watch face or case back. The numbers tell the amount of pressure that the watch can withstand. Units ATM (atmospheres) and Bar are used to indicate the amount of pressure a watch can withstand.

What is the water resistant degree of Redux COURG watches?

The COURG titanium grade 2 is rated to 15ATM. The COURG titanium grade 5 is rated to 20ATM.

15 ATM

The watch is 150 m or 500 ft water resistant. It is suitable for everyday use like swimming. snorkelling, and most water sports. But is not suitable for high board diving.

20 ATM

The watch is 200 m or 660 ft water resistant. It is suitable for sub aqua scuba diving and all high impact water sports such as surfing, jet skiing, and shallow dive trips.

But, when scuba diving with helium gas, it is recommended to use a professional diver’s watch.

How to Ensure Water Resistance?

Your Redux COURG watch is water-resistant certified and is ensured by a series of seals. Still, care should be taken to avoid damage and mishandling.

Over time, the seals will break down, become dry and brittle. Also, repeated exposure to chlorine, salt water or soap can accelerate its natural deterioration.

  1. Do not wear the watch in a hot shower, hot tub or sauna as the heat will distort the gaskets.
  2. Ensure that the crown is not pulled out before any contact with water.
  3. After using in water, dry it well with a soft cloth.
  4. Wipe the strap to improve its life.
  5. Always rinse the watch in fresh water after wearing it in the beach or in the pool
  6. Have the seals and gaskets checked every year
  7. Do not operate the crown when the watch is wet.

Regular water-resistance check is recommended once a year when worn frequently in water or once every two years under normal conditions.

More importantly, do not test the limits of your Redux watch to ensure that it gives you satisfaction for as long as you own it.
